BioFresh Archive

This blog was founded and run by the European Union Framework 7 BioFresh project between 2010 and 2014.

What is BioFresh?

Active between 2010 and 2014, BioFresh aimed to build a global information platform for scientists and ecosystem managers with access to all available databases describing the distribution, status and trends of global freshwater biodiversity.

Our rivers and lakes support an amazing diversity of life, from tiny diatoms all the way up to us humans.  These beautiful, complex webs of freshwater life often go unseen, and their importance un-noticed. However, the amazing diversity of freshwater life supports our everyday lives; from the water we drink to the food we eat.  BioFresh was a European Union project which put together the scattered pieces of information about life in our rivers and lakes, to better understand, manage and protect our freshwaters for generations to come.

You can explore archived BioFresh posts on topics such as ‘Meet the Team‘ and ‘The Cabinet of Freshwater Curiosities‘ using the tag cloud to the right of this page.
